We want to be sure that the decisions we take make a real, positive difference to the lives of people in Stockport.
But inequalities in health between different groups are well documented and long-standing.
We cannot simply assume that health policy will be equally beneficial for everyone.
A professional approach to policy-making means testing our assumptions. By assessing the potential effects of a policy on particular populations, we can increase the probability that a policy will promote equality of access and equity of outcomes.
NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group undertakes an assessment of the potential impact on equality groups of every new or revised:
- Policy
- Procedure
- Function
- Service
- Project
- Strategy
An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process we use to check that our policies and decisions are fair on all groups. The process includes:
- An initial relevance screening to identify which proposed activities and policies may affect groups differently
- An Initial Assessment for policies which may have an impact on some groups
- A full Assessment, involving and consulting local people, to identify actions to reduce the negative effects and promote fair services.
- Publishing findings.

All EIAs must be approved by the Head of Equality before sign-off and no policy can be approved without an EIA.
All of our completed EIAs are published on this website. To view them click here.
