Making Healthcare Fair
Equality, Diversity & Human Rights at NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group.
Everyone in Stockport is likely to use NHS services at some point in their life, whether it be visiting your local GP, asking the pharmacist for advice on cold and flu medication, visiting the school dentist, or using our stop smoking services. At NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group we believe that whoever you are and whatever your health needs you should receive a high quality service every time you walk through our doors. Although health overall is improving, we know that unacceptable inequalities persist between different communities in Stockport:
- People living in Bramhall are likely to live ten years longer than people living in Brinnington
- Women are more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer, but men are more likely to die from it
- South Asians are 50% more likely to die of coronary heart disease than the white population
- African Caribbean men are three times more likely to develop prostate cancer
- Our lesbian, gay and bisexual community are almost twice as likely to suffer from depression
- And women with learning disabilities are 4 times less likely to go for breast cancer screening.
Equality legislation has helped challenge much discrimination and prejudice, but there are still many gaps to overcome. NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Groupis dedicated to treating everyone with the dignity, respect and consideration they deserve. Our aim is to create an organisation free from discrimination, harassment or victimisation that actively promotes equality of opportunity for all.
Our Commitment
NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group is committed to equality of opportunity. We want to ensure that every member of the community has:

- equally high standards of care & health
- equal opportunities to work with us

We intend to deliver our equality vision through our Equality Strategy, which can be accessed here –
