NHS Stockport CCG has a responsibility to promote comprehensive healthcare within the resources available to us. We must carefully manage NHS resources, while ensuring that people have access to high-quality services and care, wherever they live. In order to provide the same level of care across Greater Manchester, the 12 CCGs in the region are seeking to adopt the same policies on a number of services and treatments. The first three policies, covering tonsillectomy, aesthetic breast surgery, lycra body suits and hyaluronic acid injections have been published for consultation and feedback, and can be found here.
If further information on the policies is required, please contact Rachel McDonald, GMCSU’s EUR Policy Manager, on or via email at . A brief summary on each policy is below:
Tonsillectomy: This policy document aims to specify the conditions under which Tonsillectomy will be routinely commissioned by Clinical Commissioning Groups in Greater Manchester. It seeks to: reduce the variation in access to tonsillectomy across the region; ensure that tonsillectomy is commissioned for conditions where there is acceptable evidence of clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness; and to promote the cost-effective use of healthcare resources.
Lycra body suits: This policy document aims to specify the conditions under which lycra body suits will be routinely commissioned by clinical commissioning groups in Greater Manchester. It seeks to: ensure that a lycra body suit is commissioned where there is peer-reviewed evidence of clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness; reduce unacceptable variation in the commissioning of lycra body suits across Greater Manchester; and to promote the cost-effective use of healthcare resources.
Aesthetic breast surgery: This policy document aims to specify the conditions under which lycra body suits will be routinely commissioned by clinical commissioning groups in Greater Manchester. It seeks to: reduce the variation in access to aesthetic breast surgery across the region; ensure that aesthetic breast surgery;is commissioned for conditions where there is acceptable evidence of clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness; and to promote the cost-effective use of healthcare resources. Aesthetic breast surgery covers those requests where there is no underlying breast disease that is being treated by the surgery.

It seeks to: reduce the variation in access to hyaluronic acid injections across the region; ensure that aesthetic breast hyaluronic acid injections are commissioned for conditions where there is acceptable evidence of clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness; and to promote the cost-effective use of healthcare resources.
