Orthopaedic Assessment Service (OAS)
This service is designed to assess and diagnose orthopaedic and musculoskeletal problems in persons aged 18 and over. We then discuss and plan the appropriate treatment for the patient within our service or via a referral to a secondary care provider where necessary. We offer a variety of clinics as listed in the document which can be accessed by clicking the following link:
Clinic Types
If your referral is purely for physiotherapy, please refer directly to the Primary Care Physiotherapy Service and not through the Tier 2 Orthopaedics service.

Orthopaedic Triage Service (OTS)
On the 5th November 2009 SMC and NHS Stockport launched the new Stockport Orthopaedic Triage Service. From this date the OAS service were no longer appear on Choose and Book and therefore ALL orthopaedic referrals should be directed to the new clinic on Choose and Book called “Stockport Orthopaedic Triage Service”. This is instead of you referring to other orthopaedic services including Tier 2, IS CATs and secondary care.
We have developed this pilot to address the significant increase in demand for orthopaedic services in Stockport and the corresponding need to manage utilisation to ensure maximum efficiency. This pilot will enable us to fully understand the patient need for orthopaedic services and ensure that the contracts developed are appropriate in future.
Therefore until further notice please direct ALL orthopaedic referrals into this service.
